Soul Purpose 360 launches The National Survey of Black Women & Girls in Britain to shape a proposed National Commission

This Black History Month, Soul Purpose 360 is calling on Black women and girls across Britain to stop being defined by others and start defining themselves.

Through #DefinitionRedefined, the national women’s empowerment organisation, named one of the Big Issue’s 100 Changemakers of 2026, is launching The National Survey of Black Women & Girls in Britain on Monday 26 October.

The survey is open to Black women aged 18 and over and girls aged 16 and 17, wherever they live in Britain. It will capture their experiences, ambitions and priorities in their own words. Women and girls can sign up now to receive the survey link the moment it opens. The survey closes on 31 January 2027.

Soul Purpose 360 aims to reach at least 2,000 respondents, with a stretch goal of 5,000. The findings will feed a proposed National Commission on the lives of Black women and girls in Britain, alongside a national conference and a book.

Why now

Too often, decisions about Black women and girls are made using data that was never designed with them in mind. #DefinitionRedefined puts the pen back in their hands. Every answer adds to an evidence base built by, with and for the people it describes.

Palma Black, Founder and CEO of Soul Purpose 360, said:

“For too long, Black women and girls have been described, measured and labelled by everyone except ourselves. #DefinitionRedefined changes that. We’re asking women and girls in every corner of Britain to tell us who they are, what they need and what they dream of. Their voices will shape a National Commission that leaders cannot ignore. This is our definition, and we’re writing it together.”
