Become a Trustee

Trustees are a group of unpaid volunteers who sit on the board of a charity, organisation or group and decide how the it is run.

Share Your Skills, Shape Your Community

Volunteering as a trustee is different to most other forms of volunteering. It can be just as rewarding and it is a fantastic opportunity for professional development.

Trustees have overall control of an organisation or group, and are responsible for ensuring it is running as intended. It’s an important role – trustees are a key part of what keep the voluntary sector working!

Becoming a trustee will generally require you to attend regular meetings to discuss ongoing matters within the organisation. These are normally monthly to six-weekly. This is where you will apply your skills and experience to the role to ensure the charity or group is well managed. You may also choose to attend additional meetings or pick up extra work between meetings, such as task and finish groups based on achieving a particular goal.
As the time commitment is normally relatively small, being a trustee is a good fit for professionals or those with busy lives.

Organisations are often looking for trustees who can bring a unique perspective to their board, such as digital expertise, marketing, finance or HR.
